DANCE TEAM

Dance 1 is also known as Intro to Dance. We touch on as many different types of dance as possible in this class. We start by exploring Social Dance Forms and by the second 6 weeks we are learning about World Dance. We wrap up the semester by covering contemporary forms such as Ballet, Modern, and Jazz.
Dance 2 is a Technique Class. Each six weeks we will focus in depth on a genre of dance. The first 6 weeks is Ballet. The second is modern and we complete the semester with jazz. There is a performance requirement in Dance 2. Dance 3 is Improvisation and Choreography. Students spend the entire semester learning new ways to create dances. At the end of the semester students perform their own work as well as choreography of other classmates. Dance 4 is for Senior Dancers who would like to continue their dance education after high school. If they are going to college, we research institutions to find the best fit for that student and apply for auditions and scholarships through dance. Students that are entering directly into the work force will work on resumes and audition pieces to be successful in their next step. |
The FMDT consists of 20 dancers that audition in May of the previous year. These dancers can be seen performing at various school events like Varsity football and basketball games. The dance team also performs at many community functions on and off campus.
